The City of Sioux Falls Public Works Environmental and Sanitary Landfill Divisions are accepting applications for an internship opportunity. This is a seasonal, non-benefitted position. The intern will assist the Sustainability Coordinator with the City’s internal and external sustainability initiatives and public education. The intern will also assist Environmental Division staff with routine monitoring and data management. In addition, the intern will assist the Landfill Division. The work schedule will be Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and will involve some weekend and evening shifts. The schedule will involve 40 hours per week for an approximate 4 month duration, May 1 to August 31, 2018. Dates are subject to the applicant’s schedule.

Duties will include a variety of activities including, but not limited to, the assistance with public information programs for sustainability such as waste reduction and recycling, compost management and monitoring, customer load monitoring, container placement complaints, and program research. Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors with some physical work, in potentially high temperatures, humidity, wind, and rain. Students enrolled in an environmental-related curriculum as a full-time student at a college, university or vocational-technical school for the 2018 semesters are preferred. EOE.
