Flood Map Revision

The flood insurance rate maps [FIRM] from FEMA were made effective in Sioux Falls on September 2, 2009. The previous FIRM maps were from September 28, 1982. Since 2009, the flood control system was been improved through land acquisition, levee construction, and updated hydraulic analysis.

On Sept. 10, 2014 the Physical Map revision and supporting documents from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and City of Sioux Falls were submitted to the FEMA LOMC Clearinghouse. A Physical Map revision, through FEMA, is pending and will affect land within the city of Sioux Falls including Minnehaha and Lincoln Counties in proximity to the Big Sioux River, Skunk Creek and its tributaries. The preliminary maps are available on-line as of June 26, 2015 and the physical map revision process is underway.
