Title: How Do New Materials Get to the Library?

Did you know that there are eight people who work in the Technical Services Division of Siouxland Libraries? These people place orders for all the new books and other materials (books on CD, DVDs, CDs). As the orders arrive, one person opens the boxes. Other people catalog all the new materials so you can find them in the Library Catalog, giving them subject headings and call numbers. Still other people put the labels and jackets on them and send them out to the branches. So far in 2009, the Technical Services people have ordered, cataloged, and prepared over 20,000 books and other materials.

The Technical Services Division normally works out of the Main Library. But when the construction project began at the Main Library, Technical Services moved to City Hall Annex, which is just across the street from the Main Library. Eventually they will move back to the Main Library where they will continue ordering, cataloging and preparing all the books and other materials for all the branches of Siouxland Libraries.
