The Crooks Branch Library renovation project began December 7, 2009 and was completed in mid-April 2010.
The facility was originally the headquarters for the Minnehaha County Rural Public Library. In 1995, the county library merged with Sioux Falls Public Library to become Siouxland Libraries. The role of the Crooks Library changed from being administrative to operating as a branch.
Since the merger, use of the library has continually increased. In 2009, renovations were started to increase the public space in the building by decreasing the staff area. Distinct seating areas for children, teens and adults were added in the library. In addition, the library has new shelving, new carpet and paint, a second bathroom, drinking fountains and a larger public service desk. A ribbon cutting for the newly renovated Crooks Branch Library was held on April 29, 2010.
The Crooks Branch Library is located at 900 N West Ave in Crooks.
What to expect in the renovated library:
- Open, inviting space with more light
- New books and other library materials on display shelves
- More seating for all ages
- Expanded teen area
