Author C.K. Van Dam creates stories about strong pioneer women, inspired by history. Her debut novel received two Spur Awards from Western Writers of America: Best Western Romance and Best First Novel. As a presenter for the South Dakota Humanities Council, Van Dam uses interviews, letters home and journal entries of women pioneers to provide a glimpse at their lives.
