Library State Park Passes: A Field Guide

Hiking boots? Check. Picnic lunch? Check. Library card? That’s right. You can choose your own adventure by checking out a South Dakota State Park Pass! Before you hit the trails, here’s everything you need to know.
What is included in a library State Park Pass?
Each library State Park Pass includes one passenger vehicle tag, which includes park pass guidelines and a QR code survey. Also available are South Dakota State Park and Recreation Area handbooks.
How do I place a hold?
Use our online catalog to look up “State Park Pass.” Log in with your library card number and select which Siouxland Libraries branch you’d like to pick it up at. We’ll notify you when it’s ready.
Can I pick them up at any library?
Yes! You can place a hold request and have a State Park Pass transferred to any Siouxland Libraries branch. When your hold is ready, you will receive a text or email notification. The hold will be available for seven days, so you can pick it up on whichever day of the week is best for you.
Where can I find them?
Holds can be picked up at any Siouxland Libraries branch. Some passes are reserved strictly on a first-come, first-served basis; these can be found at the Sioux Falls Branches (Downtown, Caille, Oak View, Prairie West, Ronning), as well as the Brandon and Crooks Branches.
Where do I return the pass I checked out?
Passes can be returned at any Siouxland Libraries branch.
How many park passes does the library have?
Siouxland Libraries currently owns 20 park passes.
What is the loan period for a State Park Pass?
State Park Passes check out for three days, with no renewals or consecutive checkouts permitted.
Which parks can I visit with a State Park Pass?
The South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks has an interactive map of all the State Parks. Click on any location to find more information about park hours and amenities.
