Common Roots Seed Library
Common Roots Seed Library is a collection of free seeds to share with the community. With free access to seeds, citizens can grow their own fresh produce and enrich the community with native plants and pollinators. Whether you're new to gardening or have years of experience, Siouxland Libraries can connect you to the resources you need.
Common Roots Seed Library is located at the Ronning Branch Library.
How to use the Common Roots Seed Library:
Borrow
Select seeds to take home.
Grow
Plant your seeds and watch them grow.
Return
Harvest new seeds from your mature plants. Bring them back to the seed library.

What is a seed library? | A seed library is a free collection of seeds that may be borrowed, planted, and eventually returned at the end of the growing season. It can help people grow their own food and increase native pollinators in our community. |
Do I need a library card to use the seed library? | No. |
How do I borrow seeds? |
Stop by the Ronning Branch Library to browse the seed library. Select seeds to take home. Plant your seeds and watch them grow. If you feel comfortable, let some of your plants go to seed so that you may harvest new seeds. Return these seeds to the Common Roots Seed Library to share with someone else in the community. |
Does it cost anything? | No. The seed library is free to use. |
Am I required to return seeds? | No. You are not required to return seeds. However, we encourage you to learn seed-saving techniques and return the next generation of your seeds to share with someone else in the community. |
How do I return seeds to the seed library? | Bring your seeds to the Ronning Branch Library and fill out a seed library donation form |
